In the parent project, it is possible to specify which build configuration of the dependent project to use. However, the issue is when the dependent project itself has a project dependency. The user must go to that first dependent project and set the desired build configuration to use for its dependent project. This can be cumbersome if the projects are shared by other parent projects. The ideal solution is to have an additional setting at the dependent project(s) to simply "inherit" the active configuration of the parent at the time of the parent project build.
