Workaround:
Create a new project using the closest device variant that is available in the project wizard. Then once the project is created, open the project properties and manually change the variant to the originally desired one.

In CCSv11.2 a number of MSP430 devices are not available in the project wizard. For example devices that start with MSP430G24 are not listed. The device xml files are present and the device can be selected in the target configuration editor
