Out of the box ble5stack examples fail to sustain a connection with blestack peripherals

A CC2652 device loaded with a BLE5 simple_central or multi_role out-of-the-box project fails to maintain a connection to a previously paired/bonded CC2640R2 BLE4 simple_peripheral

The connection is maintained indefinitely when a new pair/bond is established. However, a disconnect followed by a re-connect re-uses the previous bond but issues a timeout (error 0x22 or LL_STATUS_ERROR_LL_TIMEOUT) after tens of seconds.
This issue happens with all permutations of SDK4.30 and 4.40 for both CC2652 and CC2640R2. Also, this issue does not happen with BLE5 stack for CC2640R2.
