Use the option with double quotes:
--symbol_map="Sym1=Sym2"

Use the option with double quotes: --symbol_map="Sym1=Sym2"

The Assembly Language Tools user guide gives the following example for the --symbol_map option:
--symbol_map='foo=foo_patch'

The single quotes don't work in all cases. Remove the quotes from the example and state that there should be no spaces. Please note that this applies to all compilers.
